« on: Sunday 18 September 16 10:49 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

Not sure if this is where I should post this message but I'm trying to trace the mother's name of Jane Fisher b 1821 Gorbals Glasgow. Her father was Robert Fisher (engineer)

Jane married James Sinclair in 1853 Milton Glasgow. I just can't find mothers name!

many thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

In Scotland the eldest daughter is usually named after her maternal grandmother - James Sinclair and Jane Fisher's eldest daughter was Mary Wotherspoon Sinclair, so would seem Jane's mothers was named Mary Wotherspoon.

I then looked for a marriage and found on familysearch:

Robert Fisher married Mary Wotherspoon 19/2/1804 Barony, Lanarkshire so this sounds like her parents.

There's a Robert Fisher, hammerman, who was made burgess of Glasgow and guild brother by purchase on 28th August 1806.

It might possibly be him. If so it suggests that his father had not been a burgess and wife was not the daughter of a burgess.

If Jane died in Scotland after 1855 then her parents names should be on her death record.
