I'm now even more confused  :o

If Elsie W married Edward Goostry in 1912, then by 1939 that initial has changed to M and the birth date doesn't tally.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!

Yes, she changes from Elsie W to Elsie M in 1925 and 1939 .
I'm waiting to see if my friend has the marriage certificate.

Where doesn't the birth date tally ?

GRO showing birth of a Winifred May Gould mmn Kendall June quarter 1897 in Aston. Could that be her?

Harry Burnard Kendall born Woverhampton June quarter 1882 and Percy Gould Kendall March quarter 1884 in Wolverhampton. Both births predate the 1884 marriage and recorded under Elizabeth's maiden name.
