Welcome to rootschat Shane.  :)

On the bottom of each rootschat page, second column on the left, and second down on the list, is "Surname Interests". If you click on this you can see if there are any other members researching the same surname.

Here is a link to Middlemiss:
http://surname.rootschat.com/sit-surnames.php?letter1=M&letter2=8&surname=MIDDLEMISS#top_tv

If you wish you can click on the member's name to contact them to see if you have a commection. Please note though, that some people join rootschat, enter their surnames, then never return, so they may not respond to your email - this has happened to many of us. Some people change emails, some lose interest, and sad to say, some die. Just as long as you are aware of this and not to get too hopeful that you will find any family connections through the Surname Interests.

Some people do not bother entering their research names either, so if there is something specific you are looking for regarding the family, then just ask. Try to give as many details as you can to make sure we are not giving you information that you already have, and to make sure we are helping you with the correct Middlemiss family.

For example, I looked for births for the surname Middlemiss on Freebmd, and got thousands of results:
https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

Which, if any, are yours? We need many more details in order to help you.

If you are looking for living relatives, at the very least you still need to supply names, places and dates, but do not name anyone who is still living as this is not allowed on rootschat.

Added: there are 561 people with the surname Middlemiss on the 1881 England census, and most seem to originate from the NE of England.
