Bonnylane (place name) Campbell
« on: Thursday 15 September 16 11:26 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know the whereabouts of Bonnylane?

Bonnylane is recorded as the birth place of Eliza  ( Campbell ) McKinney on Derry City Cemetery Records.

Eliza Jane Campbell married John McKinney at Great James St, Londonderry in 1855.

Eliza’s father was John Campbell, a farmer so I’d assume Bonnylane was in a rural area.

Any ideas very welcome!

... Eliza Jane Campbell married John McKinney at Great James St, Londonderry in 1885.

1855.  Not 1885.

I'm looking again at a birth record which I had previously ruled out as it is some distance from Londonderry.

Some of the details fit with the marriage record.

Eliza Jane Campbell born 1835 -    she was aged 20 when she married in 1855.
Father John Campbell                    same
1st Dromara Presbyterian -            same religion
The address is given as Aughnaskeagh.

However that doesn't lead me any closer to Bonnylane!

Hello

I think this is a mis-transcription and should read Bunnamayne  a townland in the Parish of Burt, Co. Donegal, close to the border (townland shares a border with county Londonderry)

I have Campbell's in my tree from Bunnamayne, a James Campbell who married one of my Craigs, his father was John Campbell, Bunnamayne, Burt, James and your Eliza jane are probably related

John Campbell is also recorded in the Griffith Valuation in Bunnamayne, Burt in 1857, doesn't look like a farmer, more likely to be a farm labourer as he held no land that I can see, living on the Estate of Lord Templemore

Joe, thank you so much for your help.
It certainly seems a feasible explanation, they do sound similar!

John Campbell’s occupation was given as a farmer when Eliza Jane married but I suppose that could be another mistake.

Eliza Jane was born in 1835 - I haven’t found a birth record but she was 20 when she married in 1855-  so perhaps she could have been James’ aunt?

Appreciate your assistance, I’m sure I wouldn’t have come up with that myself.
