Thank you DRH.

We have found her and traced the family, but loose her after 1871, when she is living with her married sister Caroline and another sister and her Grandmother Elizabeth.

Thank you also William, found the FreeBMD ref in 1883, but not having luck finding a Parish Record for it ( as we did in Bath ).

The other two names showing in the 1883 Bmd are John Hillier Goodland and Celia May Bailey. A couple of trees on Ancestry have married John Hillier Goodland off to Mary Ann Hill. However as far as I can see this is contradicted in the 1891 census where we have a Celia Goodland aged 27, a widow, with two children, Fred and Emily, living in Bristol with her parents James and Mary Bailey.

Thank you William, we were having difficulty finding John Hillier Goodman on a census, to find his partner.

Found Celia and the children.

Also a Baptism, for Frederick James Goodland, 1891 Bristol
Father:
John Hillier Goodland
Mother:
Celia May Goodland

Leaving a John BALL marrying a Mary Ann HILL, to investigate further.

Scenario could be ...

In 1877, Mary Ann Hill, single woman gives birth to Emily Jane HILL
In 1879, Mary Ann Hill, single woman gives birth to Elizabeth Ann HILL
She meets John Ball and lives with him as man and wife on census in 1881, the 2 girls listed as BALL.
The couple have a child Harry Edwin 1881

Marry in Bristol in June Q 1883

Have another child, Sarah Frances in Dec Q  1883.

The 4 children all Baptised, 15 May 1884.

Meanwhile, still searching.

Excellent summation, Firestorm and a believable hypothesis. I suspect that the only way of "proving" it is from the actual certs.

 :)

A quick update.

Before we went away, I sent an e mail, to Bristol Registry office, explaining my dilemma and asked if they could help identifying John Ball for me.

I have received, this reply.

Based on the information provided I believe that the record I have located is the one you have been looking for.

Thank you all for your help.
