How fantastic - well done!!

I've just left my job after 25 years and after a few months R&R will be looking for something new, and what you've found would be an absolute dream.   Enjoy!

That's great.

You'll soon discover something that you want to personally research and flush out all the details and, no doubt, within 2 years you'll have an "expert book" published about one event, or one person.

I wish I were close to the archive I'd like to work at .... the cost of volunteering can really add up with fuel/parking costs - and I've no interest whatsoever in what's local to me.  Mine would have to be a mix between "personal interest" (e.g. the village of my ancestors) and being of use/benefit to people NOT obsessed by my one family :)

You may be surprised the museum has an allowance for mileage & parking, may be others do too? i am extremely fortunate that it is 3 miles away from where i live & though i have not come across Naval aviation in my own research i'm looking at it as a way to grow & an exciting opportunity.
I hope you find somewhere soon that you will find exciting.
