Have you tried looking for the family in the 1939 register, that would tell you whether or not he was still alive then?

If I've got the right family on the 1939 register, then there is no Richard Barry with Mary Jane Barry (bn 1886), Leeds C B

Free index has Mary J & daughters (Mary B & Margaret) in Leeds.

I wonder if he died in WW1  :-\

Nothing sticks out on cwgc site for a likely death in WW1.

Looking at her birth date it would have been tight   ;D

I was wondering that too, Groom.  I think the marriage cert would be useful, especially as you have no idea as to Richard's age or profession e.g. if he was a seaman, he might feasibly have died at sea etc.

Definitely the marriage certificate to get birth year and occupation

Will do Rosie and thanks again.  I'v just been doing my homework and my aunt the oldest out of her and my mum was born 24th May 1914, my grandparents married Dec 1913....so obviously had to.  My mum was born Oct 1919, so unless there where children who had passed away in between-non were ever mentioned by my mum/aunt, and non came after...it maybe a case of he just upped and left.
