The child and mother are both named, as well as the name of her ship?

Yes, David Wall, Margt Wall, Mermaid

I think now that the death record holds the clue as it says "Prisoners child" rather than "Convicts child".

Margaret Wall (alias Burton) was in and out of prison including in the Female Factory near the middle of 1830 around when David Wall (died at 2 years 6 months) would have been born.

David William Wall was baptised 21 December 1830, so closer to 2 years old in Jan 1833.

Mary was assigned soon after arrival, and only entered the Female Factory in 1834, so you would expect it to read "Convicts child"

So, unless something else turns up, the David Wall who died in 1833 was not the same child who arrived with Mary Wall

Has anybody got any ideas as to how I can bottom this one please? I have noticed a number of trees on ancestry who are now claiming that David didn't die until 1933 (when he was 103!) and I'm really struggling to accept that. Especially as there doesn't seem to be any record of home after landing with Mary in 1832 (other than the orphangae link and death record of the 'other' David)

Any help would be most useful

Many thanks again

I think there is really only one way to differentiate between the two children. The age at death. The DC record says the prisoners child and gives the age as 2 years 6 months in January 1833 which means a birth July 1830. When did your Mary give birth seems the hard one I believe his age was given as 20mths on the ship?

Does the record giving his age at death 103 have any PROOF?

Yes, good point.  David was baptised in Dec 1830 and I can't find a record of birth. I may try UK gaol records if I can find them.
The 103 doesn't appear to have any proof, seems like everybody has cut and pasted somebody elses tree.

Many thank for the input though.

This page has a transcript of petitions against the sentences where it states "in the month of August 1830...and that the said Mary is now pregnant, and about 6 weeks off her accouchement".

So she was due in October by my reckoning.

Yes, I have been using that to calculate dates so it looks as though he had completely vanished if we assume he isn't the one in the Hobart death register for December 1833. Looks like I'm stuck now but many thanks for taking the time and effort to help me get this far.
