Female Orphan School, Hobart 1833
« on: Monday 29 August 16 16:31 BST (UK) »
Hi, I know that an ancestor of mine was transported to Van Diemens Land in 1832 and I know she had a child with her who was 2 years old. I have read that the child died in Hobart in 1833 and I have found an entry via familysearch that bears the theory out. However, what I can't prove is that the child that died is the right one so am hoping somebody can help.

Details are: Burials in the parish of Hobart Town 1833  page 82

David Wall - Number 1247 - buried 17 January 1833 - 2 years 6 months - Prisoners Child - (Abode)  Female Orphan School.

Is there any way I can find the mothers name?

Thanks for any assistance.

Maybe if you gave the details of the mother, it would be easier to find an answer for you.

Oops  ;D Yes, well spotted. The mother is Mary Wall nee Culliford. She came in on the Hydery 10 August 1832. Remarried William Hawkins in 1835 and died in 1863

Do you have a definite name for the child of Mary?

The 2yo child of May WALL (Hydery 1832) died on the voyage out.

It is clearly stated on her record:

I thought it said that as well so I checked the surgeon's report - Mary's child was ill but recovered, so I had another look at the red writing it says "1 child 2 years old on board"
