Hi all
Looking into a Robert Wellcoat (b1868 in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland) who seems to have made his way over to Australia at some point between 1881 and 1893. The Wellcott family appear to have scattered themselves across the globe after their parents died in 1887 - twin girls were sent to Canada, another boy ended up in London and I've still one or two to track down.
However Robert could possibly have married a Emmeline Simpson in 1893 - both are buried in Cheltenham Cemetery SA (him 1952 and her 1946) as is a Robert Philp Wellcoat (d. 1950) and a Cora Isabel Wellcoat (d. 1989). Helen Philp was Robert's mother so I'm guessing that the Robert who died in 1950 could be their son.
Allied to this in the West Terrace Cemetery in Adelaide there are graves for Bridget Agnes Wellcoat (d.1962), Hugh Joseph P Wellcoat (d.1942) and Hugh Joseph Simpson Wellcoat (d.1932). Obviously the latter having a "Simpson" in his name leads me to speculate (I got told off for that once!) that all of these might be related.
Unfortunately I live in London, UK and cannot easily access Australian records so if there is anyone out there who can help verify or disprove my musings I will be most grateful.
Cheers
Stuart
