A couple of unrelated comments ...

1) Walker is another surname cropping up again.

2) Not linked the following Thompson to Robert Thompson of Selby but ...

1841 at Scalby
John Young, 65, Ind, Yes.
Jane Young, 65, Yes.
William Thompson, 10, Yes.

Jane Young possibly Jane Porreth or Jane Porrith  23 yrs of Scarborough married John Young 22 yrs both of Scarborough, married 1797 at St Mary's Scarborough
Present: Ann Wallace, Mary Shaw, Benj: Shaw.

1830 at Scalby, Yorkshire by Banns
William Thompson
Mary Hood
In the presence of John Young, Betty Thompson her mark

Mark

Added: Regarding Jane Porritt or Porrett or Jane Porreth.

There was a Jane Porrith or Jane Porritt and John Coxton at the 1795 William Hood, marriage at Scarborough to Elizabeth Winteringham.

Further Add:

1851 Scalby, Yorkshire, Census
William Thompson 50 born Croscliffe, Yorkshire.
Mary Thompson, Wife 40 [and nee Mary Hood] born Cloughton, Yorkshire.

Provided Croscliffe was not a farm or a minor local name, it seems Croscliffe, Crosscliffe Allerston?

Found a Crosscliffe Dale in the area by Allerston village, Blackhow Topping, Crake Hall and Whitehall, and two farms on the Derwent near Yeddingham Bridge, area. The church (St Mary) was united with Ebberston vicarage.

In 1840 a piece mentions Wm Thompson, Mary Taylor, and my word some familiar surnames: Gray, Trattles, Pickering, Vasey, Peirson, Cockerill, Hind, Dale, Ruston, Rogers, Hall, Watson and Brown.

Thank you Molly, I knew the Register had got it wrong, but couldn't remember and typed it as written, here is the attached Register blunder.

Samuel Bradley.  I think the reference to Udderscelf is probably Ulleskelf township in the parish of Kirkby Wharfe.  See this map, 1845-46.
