Although, the Wife of John Spencer of Selby, Grocer and buried a Gent., was buried as Mary and most likely to be Mary More, the above may possibly be his Father John and as you rightly say, I have noted that there is a Cockin, Jervis link [alias spelling Gervis].

Scarborough St Mary's Grave Inscription
St Mary's Flat Stone in the Path,
Here rests the remaines of Jonathan Leppington and also his family the former died 23rd June 1755 aged 48[ ?] Years. Also of Hannah the Wife of Christopher Conyers who died 21st September 1800 aged 64 years.
The adjacent stone in the path was Elizabeth Jefferson daughter of [?]uel & Elizabeth Jefferson [missing] February 11th 1839 age Years & 7 months. Also of Sarah daughter of the Above who died December eroded 1844 eroded.
Whether the stones were laid together originally in the path, or together prior to moving and put in the path side by side, I cannot confirm.

What is interesting living on Hood's Yard (before Gate Yard), Gowthorpe, Selby, later 19th Century was a John Townend, Solicitors Clerk, began life living between George Hood and William Procter 1839, 1840 Selby Rate Assessment Books and 1841 Census.
On the 1839 Birth of "John Townend Junior" at Selby, John Townend, Father, Gowthorpe, Selby, it gives the Mother, Hannah Townend formerly Robinson, School Master.

William Penrose, was employed as the Tanner by George Hood around the 1840 period and Penrose's Wife was nee Elizabeth Hodgson.
So she may, or may not be related distantly to Sarah Russell, (John Russell married Martha Hotchson who signed Martha HODGSON).

Got some more on this, seen recently and possibly written down or noted on pc or notebook or on the back of an envelope somewhere, but my folder was not updated and forgotten where I made the temporary note!!

In the Notice is a reference to Anne Thompson Spinster deceased.
