The premises of John (Mr) Hood (1789) seem to have later reference to those of A. (Esq) Hood in the 1811 Gateshead Land Tax.

Where it says reps (representatives) of A. Hood Esq., in the 1811 Gateshead Land Tax (last post), it was possibly this chap ...

Hull Advertiser, 4th August 1810
On Tuesday fe'nnight, aged 52 Anthony Hood Esq. one of the Aldermen and deputy Lieutenants of the town and county of Newcastle, and Lieut. Col. of the Loyal Newcastle Associated Volunteer Infantry.

Vessels
A couple of vessels appear in adverts linked to Anthony Hood:-
the Astrea (1782) Mr John Renwick, Master. Anthony Hood and Lionel Robson, Newcastle and
the Rochester (1791) Anthony Hood, Newcastle.

Ropery of Stoddart and Hood, South Shore, June 1797
The Ropery of Stoddart and Hood, will in future be carried on under that of Anthony Hood and Co.

Mark

Thank you Dave for reminding me of this, I didn't spot John Renwick, the other day.

The Sale of the Astrea, vessel, was going to be held at the Public House of Mr Lionel Robson, in the Broad Chare, Newcastle.

John Renwick was Master of the vessel.

Apply to Mr Anthony Hood or Mr Lionel Robson.

1765, 21st December, Newcastle upon Tyne, All Saints
Lionel Robson married Isabel Hood.
(Transcription)

So probably more than just a business link between Anthony Hood, Esq., and Lionel Robson.
 ----------
There is also a Robson in the Will of John
Renwick, to my Niece Mary Robson Widow, I wonder?
(Added if John Renwick was also related to Hood, via Robson)?

Mark

Hi Mark

Another scenario with right ingredients.

When I said Anthony had his fingers in many pies, it now reminds me of your business George Hood of Selby and I wonder if this is where your George Hood got his business learning from  ??? Anthony- John Lionel Hood  ? or leaned from being in that business environment, and that exact baptism George son John Hood 1st Oct 1786 Gateshead, possible father John Hood Innkeeper of the Ship Southshore later linked to Anthony Esq.1811 by your research.

And not forgetting Richard Gibson link to Newcastle upon Tyne being your George's first known encounter 1812 Selby-George taking over an establish business with maybe workers as trained coopers and George was the business administrator not a cooper himself.

Dave
In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

Hi,

As I have a vested interest in Robert Hood of Windmill Hills, I have found out he had a sister Margaret who married in Ponteland 1781 ( married George Boyd) - I still can't find baptisms for Robert or Margaret

Hello Claire

Tyne Mercury; Northumberland and Durham and Cumberland Gazette, 31st December 1816

"PURSUANT to a Decree in the High Court of chancery, made in a cause Stodhart against Ryle; the Creditors of Robert Hood, late of the Close, Newcastle upon Tyne, and Windmill Hills, Gateshead, in the county of, Durham, liquor merchant, deceased, who died on or about the 29th Aug. 1812, are forthwith to come in and prove their debts before James Stephen, Esq. one of the Masters of the said Court, at his Chambers at Southampton Buildings, Chancery Lane, or in default thereof they will be excluded the benefit of the said decree."

Robert Hood of Windmill Hills, death on or about 29th August 1812.

Did you try Bunhill Cemetery, London?

Robert Hood of Newcastle, whose daughter Jane Hood married rev. Robt Stodhart at Gateshead, in 1808.
One daughter was Mary Ryle Stodhart born 20th July 1810 in the Parish of St Dunstan, Stepney.
Mrs Stodhart, wife of the rev R. Stodhart, died 23rd June 1829 at Epping aged 40, daughter of the late Robert Hood of Newcastle (newspaper source).
On 21st October 1830 Robert Stodhart, wid'r of St Mary, Whitechapel went on to marry Sophia Black of Woolwich, widower, present Thomas S Burt ; Rob Ward ; Alice E Burt, at Woolwich, Kent.
In 1841 they are at Providence Place Finsbury, St Mary, Islington.
Robert Stodhart, 60, Dissenting Minister, N.
Sophia, 60, N.
With family Ann 25; Jane 24; Mary 23 and 2 F.S.
Family Vault at Islington Green, mentioned in an 1846 notice, which I didn't find out about until we had searched out all the above.

 -----------------------
There were several Hood family lines running parellel at Newcastle upon Tyne, in the 18th Century.

Plus other Hood individuals it seems.

Hi Claire

Will of Robert Hood of Gateshead (mentioning Ryle)
"Robert HOOD, gentleman, of Windmill hills in the parish of Gateshead in the county of Durham [Gateshead, County Durham]"
Date of probate: 1 October 1812

"Will and codicil used in the court case on 20 May 1816: Jane Stodhart (wife of the Reverend Robert Stodhart), Samuel Hood, Peter Hood and Benjamin Hood v John Ryle, John Linsay Angus and Jabez Hood"

Thank you, I thought it was Isabella Surtees first marrying John Hood in 1755 and then Lionel Robson, that is how my Tree shows it and also it ties in with Robson's relationship to Anthony Hood in the Will.

John Hood, Hoastman, died and Mrs Hood [nee Surtees] was appealing for the knowledge of the whereabouts of any Will.

1803
Messrs Surtees, Burdon and Brandling, and Messrs Surtees, Burdon, Brandling and Embleton passed their affairs over to Gentleman named in a list and
Anthony Hood, Esq., was one of the parties named.

The Partnership in a Ropery at the South Shore [Gateshead], operating as Stoddart and Hood, was taken over in 1797 by A. Hood & Co.

Have you considered if Robert Hood of Brampton, in Cumberland taking Meetings c.1780 at the N.C. Chapel, Newcastle upon Tyne, was linked to Robert Hood of Stepney, who married Jane Hood in 1808 at Gateshead?

Thanks Mark

Claire

Regarding Robert Hood, 1780 Newcastle upon Tyne (Nonconformist Chapel Speaker).

A History of the Newcastle upon Tyne Unitarian Church (pdf online), mentions Robert Hood (not read it).

They rejected the Church of Rome and the Church of England established by Henry VIII.

So finding baptisms may be hit and miss?

Mark

Added

Hanover Square Unitarian Chapel Records 1811 to 1851 (probably not early enough?)
