Jones & Beech families Hawera area
« on: Saturday 20 August 16 13:32 BST (UK) »
Hi, anyone researching these familes (originally Welsh farmers) who came over to NZ around the early 1900’s?  I’m in the UK and trying to knit together the various connections.

Hello David

You've posted your request in the New Zealand "Completed" section, but a moderator will move this to the main NZ Board, shortly.   ;)

I'm sure we can assist you in some way, but in the meantime, can you please supply further identifying information for the JONES and BEECH families you seek.

Hi, I would like to hear from anyone researching these Jones & Beech familes (originally Welsh farmers) who came over to NZ around the early 1900’s? My grandfather’s brother Robert Henry Jones (1887 – 1964) and his wife Catherine Beech, they farmed at Goodson Road, Hawera. Children: Ceridwen Elizabeth, Doris Elsie, Cecil Lloyd, Gladys Mary, Phillis Mabel, Irene May. Also connected were Thomas Alun Jones (c1875) SA then NZ. John Owen Jones who married Sarah Jones at Hawera Wesleyan Church 6/8/1910. Beech family of Katka-tamea and Vera Hey (nee Beech) well known musician.
I’m in the UK and trying to knit together the various connections.

Hi

There are at least three family trees at ancestry.com website which mention Robert Henry JONES (1887 - 1964) ... in one of which (POWELL tree) - the researcher is seeking to connect with "family members", cousins etc.

Hi David, I'm not researching your family ancestry, however while searching for my geneology I found this information.  Not sure if you have it but thought you may be interested.

HEY, VERA nee BEECH

Vera Beech was born on the 9 August 1911 at Nurse Harvey’s, Hawera.  She was the daughter of Edward and Edith Ann Beech nee Jones, a Welsh couple, who spoke the language fluently.

The family farmed at Alton, and after World War One, moved to Ruthin, North Wales, where they lived for 11 months.  Upon their return they lived at Matapu.

As an eight year old, Vera caught the train from Te Roti to Hawera for music lessons from Daisy Reilly.  As the conductor handed her ticket back it would read vera, half of Hawera, and this greatly amused her, thinking they knew her name.

Later she learnt music from Miss Olive Bocock at Matapu, and then as a boarder at Stratford High School, learnt from Miss Phyliss Weston.  After she left school, her music lessons were with Mrs Blennerhasset of Eltham.  Here, Vera passed her LTCL, ATCL, FTCL and LRSM (Licentiate Royal School of Music) exams, and began teaching music in Hawera.

On the 23 June 1942, Vera married John Hey at Hawera.  The couple then went to live at Riverlea, where Vera continued to teach music.  She was the official accompanist to the Kaponga schools choral festival, and also for Myra Wren’s choir at Manaia.

In 1962, Vera took a trip to England with her sister Phyllis, and her husband and son.  John and Vera retired to New Plymouth, and Vera died there on the 12 April 1989.

Hope this can be of help.
Good Luck
