The route link between the North East river Tyne, South Shields  Scarborough, Hull, ((Humber, Rivers Ouse / Trent) Selby, Ferrybridge, Wakefield, Doncaster Sheffield and Rotherham was inland waterways and sea.

South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire archives (West riding those days) seems to be a pace to search for publican records for John Hood innkeeper ship inn Gateshead post 1790. Though North Yorkshire (Riding) boarder comes south through Selby to near South Elmsall area.

I might have a sniff around archives next summer as I'm researching my Jackson's of Knottingley Beale. Kellington, Cawood & Selby all in leather trades, shoe makers, tanners and cordwainers.

That John Hood or Wood? innkeeper or publican of the Talbot Inn 1793 Bradford ? I think a search of Bradford schools in WYAS archives may be worth a look for 1790's George Hood of Selby would have been age 6 to 8 years old in 1793.

Dave, those Burrell & Scott etc. (last page), have not linked me to anyone previously discussed.

But accidentally come across the Qualifying address for John Lionel Hood to Vote and it was not Newcastle nor Gateshead, but Dipton.

Dipton was near Collierley and found by chance, someone had posted a brief 19th Century history of Collierley online, Surtees seems to be one of the Landowners there.

Some bits about the surnames of Hood, Surtees, Scott and Lambton noted down here.

(I had forgotten, about the 1779 Elisabeth Lambton witness at the John Hood = Elisabeth Gibson, marriage).

We had looked at some of the Hood of Newcastle upon Tyne in the past.


3rd Add:
I managed to find some information about John Scott linked to the Surtees (mentioned in the link) and it was not the same John Scott, Waterman, marrying Eleanor Hood, Wid'w in 1775, Chapelry of All Saints, Newcastle upon Tyne.

According to the 1755 transcribed Durham Marriage Bonds p.164 ...

John Hood, All Saints, Widr = Isabel Surtees of St Nicholas

On the Bond it was claimed to say Anty Surtees of Medom her Father

Medom - Medomsley.
