Lomnitz and Duxbury Ltd Manchester

Can anyone tell me a bit more Lomnitz and Duxbury Ltd Manchester. When was the building on Whitworth Street built? Are there any photos of this from years ago? Struggling to find out anything about the history of this firm.

Hi,

The firm Lomnitz and Duxbury partnership was dissolved on 30 September 1881. Edward James Lomnitz and John Duxbury were the partners.

Lomnitz and Duxbury continued to trade and run by John Duxbury.

The address in Manchester was 9 Mount Street.

There are a number of entries for the firm Lomnitz & Duxbury in the Historical Trade Directories http://specialcollections.le.ac.uk/cdm/landingpage/collection/p16445coll4 Up to 1911 when they are listed as shipping merchants at 57 Whitworth Street.

The building is still there. Looking at old maps it looks as though it was built in the 1900s. It is not shown on the 1908 map. The name Lomnitz & Duxbury is still above the doorway of 57 see Google Street View https://goo.gl/maps/gjmyfd5ErDK2

Lomnitz & Duxbury don't appear in any Ancestry phone books after 1911.

There is a reference to Messrs Lomnitz and Duxbury Ltd. donating £26 5s to a War Memorial Fund. The edition is dated May 1919.
