Hi all,
Holly Hall is a large, beautiful old farmhouse on the edge of Greenmoor, near Wortley, in the area known as Hunshelf, South Yorkshire. I am descended from Elizabeth Vintin baptised at Wortley St Leonard on 25 March 1715, daughter of William Vintin, Forgeman of Wortley Forge, in the parish of Tankersley.
Catherine Vintin was Elizabeth's niece, daughter of William (christened at Wortley 13 Oct 1728), who was one of Elizabeth's siblings, and his wife Sarah Gillott. Sarah came from Rotherham and children are quite often baptised where the parents were married or raised - although Catherine's brothers William & Thomas were both christened at Wortley, a chapelry in the parish of Tankersley.
William 1728-94 was son of William Vintin & his wife Ellen, born at Attercliffe Forge, Sheffield, and baptised at Sheffield St Peter's Parish church (now the cathedral) on 7 Mar 1695.
The Vintins were Huguenots who first appeared in South Yorkshire (Rotherham) in 1612. They came from France as iron workers.
I have photos of Holly Hall and other relevant places in the area and quite a lot of information on the Vintins if you'd like more info.
