I've just checked on both sites for my mother's probate. I know she wrote a will and it went through probate (as a joint exec, I signed various docs for my sister to admin). Her name doesn't appear on either site.

It could be that the estate has to be over a certain value. I know that Mum didn't leave very much.

i have clicked on the last link given and still not there

That's interesting. Sometimes you will need to check a few years from the death year as the probate may have happened in a different year.

Wills are not always probated the same year of death so go back to the government site and search in 1993, etc.

If you still don't find the record then post the name and any other details such as location and we can try to find him in the government database so that you can decide if you want to order the Will.

My cousin died in 2012 and her will is on the probate site.  I know her and her husband were rich - they owned property at Sandbanks, Dorset, but I don't know how many assets/money she had of her own.  I haven't bought the will as it seems like prying into their business.  Getting wills from 1700s and 1800s feels quite different.

The Govt site, using the Advanced Search, allows a search on death year regardless of probate year. I ahve a few instances when I've searched that way and found the probate was 4 years later in some cases.

Best to order the will itself via the government site. You can do it online.

Ancestry has an index not the actual Will. There are no shortcuts to seeing the bequests.
