Auckland NZ orphanages 1850s-1860s

My great great great grandmother and daughter died a day or so after arrival in NZ in 1852.
Her husband died 5 years later. He was a Fencible. Two sons were 9 and 12yrs old, and two aged 18 and 20yrs. If willing, would the elder brothers have been able to raise the younger brothers, or would they have been taken into care?

This Auckland newspaper item makes mention of Roman Catholic orphanage establishments in 1858......

Thank You Minniehaha .... Louis James Haddon and Andrew Haddon are the younger brothers. Charles is 20, and Robert 18, but he dies in 1860

Registration place was Hunterville, Otago.  According to a tree online he was born in 1848.  Lluellyn he also was known as.
