I am the Great Granddaughter of Esther Elizabeth Caswell (nee Charlton) and I have in my possession her deeds chest. Its contents include photos, a diary, letters, wills plus a number of funeral cards. Some date back almost 200 years!! Its original owner was Esther Elizabeth Caswell (nee Charlton b.1876-d.1951) and she left if to her daughter Edith Caswell. It passed to her niece and she has very generously passed it on to me. Following a visit to Woodhorn archives, Northumberland (http://www.experiencewoodhorn.com/family-history/) where I met Keith (an archivist at the centre) and he suggested that I do a blog on the contents………so that is what I have begun to do

Where does His Grace the Duke of Northumberland fit in?  ;)

Some of my wife's forebears are from the Ebchester area, also (more of them) from across the river in Shotley parish.  I shall keep an eye on your findings ...

The Duke of Northumberland letter is actually one that I have already transcribed. You can read about it here http://caswellfamilychest.familyhistoryhunter.co.uk/2016/07/16/letter-to-the-duke-of-northumberland-from-william-charlton-17th-november-1821/

Maybe you will find some of your relatives mentioned in William Charlton's diary - I have copied the whole thing and he travels extensively around the area. It is really interesting to read :)
