What information does a research copy cert give?
« on: Sunday 31 July 16 22:19 BST (UK) »
Dear all,

I need a boat load of Irish certificates, all of them old and unavailable online, although I have dates of marriages, deaths, etc.  I've read you can get research certificates that are photocopies and much cheaper.

Are they a copy of the original certificate information, including witnesses, informants, etc, or do they give less information than a full copy of the certificate?

Is it best to get them in person in Dublin?  I'm hoping to visit sometime this year.  Has anyone tried this?  How many days do you have to wait? I don't need to search for the information, just to fill in the forms and (hopefully) collect copies.

Many thanks and apologies if this information is on a thread elsewhere,

Clarrie

They are photocopies of the Original Certs, which can be got at any Registry Office in Ireland
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

If you are going to be in Dublin use the 'See Research page' link on this site
http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/civil-records/help/i-want-to-get-a-copy-of-a-certificate-what-do-i-do
it also has the form for ordering by post if you want to get them that way. They will email the cert but you must order by post or fax.

I think you are allowed 8 certs on the day you can get the rest by post or email
usually when i go there i am waiting less than 5 minutes for my certs that is if i have all the relevant vol and page numbers beforehand from Family Search or Irish Genealogy.
They may possibly accomodate you with more certs if they are not busy and you mention you are a visitor.
If you are not familiar with that part of Dublin it is a short distance from Christchurch Cathedral and is better known as the old labour exchange it is slightly hidden by a wall beside a small car park, asking any locals for directions ask for old labour exchange Werburgh St.
