Frances Mahoney b abt 1843 Whitechapel
« on: Thursday 28 July 16 22:46 BST (UK) »
Hello.  I am looking for birth information for Frances Mahoney who was born about 1843 in Whitechapel.  Her mother was Jane O'Brien (born Ireland abt 1815) and father unknown Mahoney.  In the 1851 census, Jane is married to James Dorgan/Dorgan (born Ireland abt 1823) and also living with them is Jane's daughter Ann M O'Brien (b abt 1834 Ireland).  They are living in St Mark's Parish, Goodmans Fields.  They are living in the US by 1855.  Thank you in advance for any insights/info.
Pat

The Dorgan/Mahoney marriage is on freebmd and was in 1850.  Presumably Jane was a widow so have you looked for an O'Brien/Mahoney marriage

An interesting 1850 marriage entry - 19.8.1850 at St Botolph without Bishopsgate

James Dorgan 27 bachelor - carpenter - father = John Dorgan occ carpenter

Jane Mahoney 37 widow - father Michael Collins occ farmer

So Jane appears to have been born as Collins, married O'Brien, then Mahoney , then Dorgan

Witnesses John Clark & ? Jane Watt

and also living with them is Jane's daughter Ann M O'Brien (b abt 1834 Ireland).

A M O'Brien is aged 29 and shown as a visitor on the 1851 entry so born approx 1822 and too old to be Jane's daughter

So it looks like Jane Collins married a Mahoney and not an O'Brien

Although in the 1865 census, Jane Dargan and Ann O'Brien (about 35 y.o.) are living in Brooklyn next door to my husband's g-g-grandfather so I'm guessing a mistake about the 1851 census.

Her age is definitely 29 in 1851 so I think your 1865 entry must be a different Ann O'Brien

In 1865 - does it show her as Jane's daughter?  Ann was 35 in 1865 - what was her marital status?  Was O'Brien perhaps her married name?

Yes, she shows up as Jane's daughter and she's single.  My husband's great great grandfather was an O'Brien so the theory is she married g-g grandfather's brother at some point (first marriage).  Thank you, I appreciate all your help.  What are the chances that all Whitechapel births were registered?
