I can't find a birth for her or for any siblings to a John and Elsie Phillips in NSW.

neither could I - and I couldn't find any children to Allan Richards and Muriel Essie - so if Rhys was looking for info of "his grandads wife " and his grandad died in 1932 - I presume Muriel was his Second wife and he had children to his first wife ??
I am a little puzzled - doyou think I have that right ?.....or have I veered off track ?

Allan william arthur my grandfather had a son, my father arthur william allan.in 1932  the same year allan william arthur died on the 9th dec 1932 , muriel essie and allan william arthur only had the 1 son my dad.

You can only search for births on line until mid 1916, so you won't find birth's after that.

What I can't find are births to Muriel's folks that would be online, as is it indicated that Muriel was born 1910ish.

There is a Muriel E, but born to a father William.

Either of the marriage certificates would give you Muriel's age and place of birth, her parents names including her mother's maiden name and father's occupation.  Information given by her which would be more accurate than information on her death certificate.  Info on death certificates is only as accurate as the knowledge of the informant.

You can purchase a transcription of certificates in NSW for $20 from an accredited transcription agent.  The transcript is emailed to you.
