Schoolboy Jack Field maybe- pre or post WW1?
« on: Wednesday 20 July 16 20:47 BST (UK) »
This schoolboy is one of two people in my family's past. As he looks around 8-10 years old, it was either taken in the period 1908-1910 or 1929-1930, depending on which family member he is. Could somebody tell if the clothes indicate one or other of these periods?

I think he looks more like age 16.

Did he get a cap for cricket?

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

I think that he is a bit older than 10 years - possibly early to mid teens.

You can get some idea of how tall he is  by comparison to the size of the dog.

I agree that I have probably got his age wrong. But if he is, say 14, in the picture, then it will have been taken in either 1914 or 1936. Would I be right to assume that the clothes look more 1914 than 1936?

Hi Mary and welcome to Rootschat....it's more likely to be the earlier date judging by his clothes.

I agree he is older - he's in long pants for one thing!     ;)

Can't guess the date though!  ;)   That's a big 'buttonhole' he's wearing.

Welcome to Rootschat, Mary.

I think it's the later date. School uniform. Im looking at a photo of my grandpa in a near identical cap. He labelled it as early 1930s.
