Southampton Death Records

I have the birth of a child  VERNON CLAUDE CALLAND-SCOBLE  on 19th September 1903 at 4, Woodby Road, Woolston, Itchin, Southampton.  His mother is named as Helen Marie (born Ellen) Calland-Scoble nee Hammond. I have all the family history going back years but Ellen is my brickwall. I have no knowledge of her after this birth and know that the child was brought up with her family in Norfolk. Her husband Henry George next surfaces in 1910 in Australia.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to access Hampshire death records? I feel that's where I need to start.

Yes thanks. I tried that this morning with all sorts of variations of the name and with a +5 years.
I will get there one day. I have a letter written by Vernon showing that he never knew what happened to his Mother.

I stumbled upon a marriage for her in South Africa in 1909 to Ralph Thomas Stephen Andrew :

I've found an online tree showing Ralph T S Andrew and wife Helen Marie Hammond with one son listed , Stanley Jack Andrew b 18 May 1912 Durban.

Ralph Thomas Stephen Andrew J-M 1877 Chester 8a 422

There is an R T S Andrew , born about 1875 , a soldier returning from Australia 23 Jan 1902 , but I haven't found Helen or Ralph going to South Africa.

Rosie I am in shock. Thank you so very very much. That is absolutely amazing and fits in perfectly with the story that she and her husband had gone to South Africa. We had discounted that. She had also lost one child so I wrongly assumed that she couldn't have abandoned my husband's Grandfather Vernon.

I have been hunting for Ellen for years and sadly my Father-in-law is now not well enough to understand but I can't wait to try and tell him.

Heavens a whole line of enquiry has opened up.

I really am so very grateful.
