Serjeant Thomas McFadden
« on: Friday 15 July 16 23:51 BST (UK) »
My wife's great grandfather was Sgt Thomas McFadden, Regtl No. 24175, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. He was born in 1891 and appears on the 1911 Census. He lived in Castle Street Ballycastle in County Antrim. We would love to know a bit more about his military history; we have accessed his MIC which showed his entitlement to the Victory and War medals but not the 1914-1915 Star.

If anyone was willing to help us fill in the story a bit it would be much appreciated. In particular we would be interested in learning which battalion of the RIF he was in, as that way we can gain a better idea as to where he might have been posted.

Thank you all for any help you're able to provide us.

RRTB,

I note from your previous threads you have looked into other military ancestors. You'll probably know most of the basics but i wonder if the following might help.

Have you spoken to or visited the regimental Museum at Enniskillen? I think they also house the regimental archive.

If you are not a member it would be well worth joining the Great War Forum. You could then search the Inniskilling threads which in turn would reveal members who specialise in that Regiment. Contacting by PM may save a lot of leg work or simply post a thread using as many tags as possible

I had a quick look on FindMyPast this morning and can't spot a service record for him.

Hope this helps

Simon

Is this him?
"SGT. TOM McFADDEN was home in Ballycastle in June of 1917 recovering from wounds received on 1st July 1916 at the Somme.  He had just four days at home. After the war he served his time as a plasterer and was employed by local builders. During World War Two he trained the local Home Guard and lived in Castle Street. He is interred in Ballycastle RC Graveyard."
