The Presbyterian congregation of Balteagh had been established in 1823 by people originally attached to Drumachose Presbyterian congregation, in the nearby town of Limavady (then known as Newtownlimavady). The petitioners were seeking a share of the Regium Donum Fund, otherwise known as the Royal Bounty.

The petition (1828-1829) from Balteagh is found amongst a bundle of various papers relating to the payment of Regium Donum (NAI: OP1/685/2). It lists approximately 200 Presbyterian families, comprising 1,023 individuals, residing in sixteen townlands lying to the south-east of the town of Limavady. An article about this valuable census substitute can be found in the Irish Genealogist, vol. 13, No. 2, (2011).

I have been searching for years for a family called Gibson,in Carrick/Balteagh. I had been told (several times) there was NO Presbyterian church in Balteagh, that if they were Presbyterians (they were) they would have attended Bovevagh Pres church, sometimes known as Scriggan church.
The man I'looking for is Alexander Gibson born c 1833,father William Gibson - mother possibly Martha ???
I know this is no help to Millen/mylne family, but is there  Balteagh Pres Church?

Are you sure they were from Carrick/Balteagh?

The only William Gibson in Kennaught barony in the 1831 census resided in Ballyness, Dungiven

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/c19/007246493/007246493_00236.pdf

There were two families residing in the household headed by William Gibson - with 8 males & 3 females present all Presbyterian.

Gortinanima Thanks for that info. I did know about the 1831 census - that aggravating census with no names. But it did put them in Carrick, and I know they did live there.(They ended up in Caugh,Derrychrier, near Dungiven, but can't pin down year when they went there, but it was before 1910)

Have you checked the (free) online Valuation Revision books for Caugh, and Carrick) to see when name was added and scored out from those properties? Books run from printed version of Griffith's Valuation until c1930.

Have a look at the PRONI Historical Maps Viewer.

https://apps.spatialni.gov.uk/PRONIApplication/

If you type ‘Lislane’ in ‘Find address or place’ box and from the dropdown choose Lislane (Balteagh).

Click top right ‘Layer List’ and choose map - OSNI Historical Second Edition (1846-1862).

You will see the Presbyterian Meeting House (Balteagh) and its associated graveyard.
