Are you trying to connect Ellen, William & Richard F back to Deal/Walmer.  If so I think that you need to look at them one at a time and try tracking them back from where you know they exist.

The NBI shows that by far the largest contingent came from Cheshire going back to the start of Parish Registers.
found only 4 from Kent & that was much later so migrated in from somewhere else.
What we know is that William son of William was probably not first generation American.
I agree with Rosie. you need to trace the Kent Axon's back further if this is the family you are interested in.
The same applies if it's the First Lady's family.

Many thanks for your valuable info.I seem to recollect that the family goes back to James axon who was supposedly a gunner in the napoleonic war however there seems to be some suggestion that he was based in Walmer castle.As you have both suggested I need to go back to basics and take it from there.axon is not a common surname which does indeed seem to originate from the Cheshire area.

FindMyPast has 3 records for a James Axon dated from 1800-03 which are probably the Musters.
There is also 1 service record dated 1803 & giving a birth year of 1784 & a location of Levinsham Manchester.
There is also 1 service record for a James Axson dated 1800 giving a location of Congleton Cheshire.
Whether they are all the same person I can't say. You will have to buy credits I'm afraid.
If he was at Walmer Castle he was probably RGA.

The Axons of Deal & Walmer didn't start until 1800 when James and Sarah Axon moved there from Cheshire via Woolwich and Hougham (near Dover). He was in the R.A. The family grew and were mainly seafaring but to look any further back from 1800 would mean investigating the Cheshire branch.
