Another thing I can think of is that whoever registered his death may have his mother's maiden name as Boag rather than Boak.....just another avenue  ???

Info on Jane Boak Gartshore. Born 21 Jun 1826 New Monkland, married Oct 1844 Thomas Aitken b.30 Jun 1813 Glasgow. Jane died 15 Feb 1913 Glasgow and Thomas 1861 in New Monkland, they had two daughters. Jane then Married Peter Salmond b.8 Jun 1820 in Balfron, they married 5 Jun 1866 Airdrie they had one son William b.2 Jul 1871.

Peter had married before to Janet Forsyth, 29 May 1842 in Cadder they had 9 Children. One of the children Peter b.18 Dec 1857 in New Monkland, d.10 Dec 1936 Coatbridge married Jane Gartshore Aitken the daughter of Jane Boak and Thomas Aitken. Jane had been married before to James Wilson Tod they married 1877 in Glasgow. Jane died 3 Mar 1892 Queensland Australia and James died 1 Jan 1885 Old Monkland.

Thank you Graham_of_that_ilk - yes I have all of that.  I have been to the cemetery in Townsville, Queensland, Australia where Jane and she and Peter Jnr's four children are buried.  They are buried opposite my Macdonald family.

There are no deaths on SP for surname Sa*mon* with mms M*k*r*l but if there were children who died prior to 1974 the mms may not have been added to the index yet.
