Pilch Surname in Scott Township and Uxbridge.
« on: Thursday 07 July 16 16:21 BST (UK) »
I am looking for information on the family of Peter Pilch who was born in Norfolk, England abt. 1815.

He was married to Elizabeth (Heath) Pilch and some online trees suggest that they were married abt. 1840. However, I believe he had an earlier marriage to Susannah (unknown).

Online trees also suggest that his parents were Joseph and Elizabeth. However, I believe that Joseph was Peter's brother and they were both the children of Robert and Sarah from Blickling, Norfolk, England.

Known children include: Jonas (1842-1857), Noah (1844-1904), William (1848-), James (1850-), Henry (1853-), Sarah Ann (1855-), and Eliza (1860-).

Peter was buried in the Sandford Memorial Cemetery, Uxbridge Twp, Ontario, Canada.

I can check to see if there is a family file at the Uxbridge library, and can also ask the retired curator of the Uxbridge Museum if he knows the family. He was also the author of the Scott Township history book.  I'll be back in touch.

Also, all of the census records have him in Uxbridge Township, not Scott, and while he is buried in Sandford, when he died in 1881, that was in Scott Township, but today is in the amalgamated Uxbridge Township (which swallowed up Scott Township).

I think Peter originally lived in Scott Township with his first wife, Susannah. Both Jonas and Noah seem to suggest that this was their mother. Although, I can not seem to find a record for her. There is also a Robert Pilch (b. 1839) born in Scott Township to Peter and Susanna who was married to Ann Hacking on 8 Nov 1865.

Also a marriage of a Robert Pilch, born Scott Township, of Whitchurch Township, born 1839, to Ann Hacking. Parents' names given as Peter & Susannah. 8 November 1865 in York County.

There is a Joseph Pilch of the right age to be Peter's father, who dies in Siloam, Uxbridge Township, in 1886, aged 89 years.

Some online trees suggest that Joseph is Peter's father, but I believe they might have been brothers.

Also a James Pilch, aged 50, in the 1861 Census in Uxbridge, who might be another brother.

Attached are the notes from the Uxbridge Museum from several years ago in a letter sent to another researcher also working on the Pilch family.  Perhaps there is something new in here for you.
