Monumental Inscriptions - Robert Anderson (1778-1870)
« on: Saturday 02 July 16 08:19 BST (UK) »
My 3xggrandfather died 3  June 1870 in Wrae, Ewes, Dumfries. Would anyone happen to have MI records for cemeteries in this area? I am endeavouring to locate his gravesite/headstone inscription.
Thanking you.
Bill.

Hi Bill,
Memorials of Ewes (number 142) reads: In memory of John Anderson who died in Flaskholmhead November 10th 1806 aged 69 years. and Agnes Rae his spouse who died in 1824 aged 82 years. Also ROBERT ANDERSON, their son who died at Wrae 3rd June 1870 aged 92 years.  Also Sarah Nicol spouse to Robert Anderson, Shepherd at Linhope, who died September 16th 1843 aged 66 years. Also Walter aged  28, Robert 24 Archibald 10 and Agnes 41 (14?) children of the above Robert Anderson and Sarah Nicol all interred here.

Hello Ian and thank you for replying to my post.    That is definitely my family.  All I need to do now is find some kind person who lives close to Ewes Cemetery and is willing to take a photo for me 🙂
Cheers, Bill

Bill,
Your Anderson family were originally Andison.
Robert was baptised 24 Feb 1790 Ewes. Parents John Andison and Agnes Rae.  I have a gt, gt, grandmother Andison.   She was one of many siblings, her two youngest brothers changed their name to Anderson.

Thank you M Carter; searching with that surname does open up fresh possibilities. I will PM you shortly as we may share some connection.
Regards,  Bill   (PS: I reckon date may be 1780  ;) )
