Knaresborough marriage pls around 1820-5
« on: Tuesday 28 June 16 02:48 BST (UK) »
I have been unable to find a marriage and hope for a good result. Thomas Fairbank b.1788 d.1831 married (presumably) Rachel who was born ca.1797 d.1846 age 49. They had just one child, Sarah b.Knaresborough 1825 - she married Richard Abbey in 1849.

In 1841 Rachel and Sarah are living at Bell Mont Farm, Knaresborough. There is also a 3 year old Thomas Johnson with them.

Places already checked include FindMyPast, FreeReg, and FamilySearch. Thomas was an attorney as were his father and brothers so it is unlikely that he would not have married Rachel. At the time of his death he lived at Bond End.

Any help would be appreciated, please.

Hi in a similar fashion I cannot readily locate a marriage for Rachel and Thomas Fairbank in Knaresborough area, the only possibly clue could be the Thomas Johnson aged 3 who is with Rachel/Sarah in 1841, he is not with this family in 1841:-

Thomas Johnson 35
Sarah 45 Not born in County
William 9 Not born in County
Jane 4 Not born in County
Mary Ferrington 15
Eliza Ferrington 13
Residing at Star Beck, Knaresborough
Census Ref HO107/1285/ 16/28 / 3

1851 census:-

Thomas Johnson 46
Sarah 56
Thomas 13 b Scriven
Census Ref HO107/2282/413/6

Possibly Thomas Johnson married a Sarah Firrington 11th February 1831 Knaresborough, believe she was a Widow, Sarah Bozer marrying a Ferrington?

Thanks for that quick reply. I had wondered what the young Thomas Johnson was doing with Rachel and her daughter Sarah - but possibly just visiting or the child of a sibling of Rachel.

But I can't see that linking him to Sarah is right as it is Rachel who is the widow in 1841 and it is for her marriage to Thomas Fairbank that I am searching.

Thomas Johnson or Sarah Bozer could be siblings of Rachel but I can't think how to confirm that. As she died before the 1851 census, and her husband Thos Fairbank died 1831, there is no help to be found there either.

Thanks for the Thomas Johnson info I will add it to my mounting list in case it helps later.

You say that Thomas, his father and brothers were all Attorneys - but Sarah's baptism entry shows Thomas as being a Farmer  :-\  I've also looked at the 1822 Baine's Directory for the West Riding, and there is no mention of the surname Fairbank under the heading of "Attornies" in Knaresbrough.

Unfortunately, I, too, cannot see a marriage between Thomas Fairbank and Rachel - in Yorkshire :'(

1828 Pigot's Directory has:

Thomas Fairbanks - gent. of Bond End (under Knaresbrough)

Again, no entry for Fairbank(s) under Attorneys

Hi,
Yes, that is strange. I am only passing on information given to me by the grand daughter of said Sarah, so haven't seen a birth cert. In 1841, after Thomas had died (1831) his wife and daughter were indeed living at Bell Mont farm, Knaresborough so perhaps there is an error somewhere. I will go back to the lady trying to find this information and let her know what you have turned up.

Many thanks,
OzzieJoan

Hello Joan, both Francis Fairbank and his son Francis junior were attorneys in Knaresborough.  I have the evidence if you'd like to email me on doug.booth7'at'bigpond'dot'com  The remainder of your query is a mystery to me.  Kind regards, Doug
