Tracing the Wilson family in Lincolnshire -- help appreciated!
« on: Sunday 26 June 16 17:38 BST (UK) »
Hi there, I'm tracing the ancestry of my relatives, the Wilson family of Grimsby and North Lincolnshire.

Christopher Wilson was born in 1844 in Louth, Lincolnshire and in 1867 married Elizabeth (nee Paddison), born in 1841 to Thomas Ostler Paddison and Mary Paddison (nee Sergeant). Christopher was a plasterer/'platerer'. They had several children together, including Herbert and Tom. Herbert died in 1916. Elizabeth died in 1929, and Christopher himself died in 1932.

I'm especially curious about Christopher Wilson because I can presently find no information about his parents. Herbert is also interesting -- Christopher, Elizabeth, and Herbert were interned together after Herbert's death. If any information could be found in censuses, etc, about any of the people mentioned above, I would be so so grateful!  :D

Cheers,
James

Rosie, Suz -- thanks! This information is spectacular -- exactly what I've been looking for!

I've been searching around on the rest of the site and I've found a discussion from a few years back about a Christopher Wilson & co from Hull:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=285631.0
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=214158.0

The OP mentions that most of the family could later be found at Louth. Does this seem to be a good, reliable lead?

Best,
James

Christopher Wilson (senior) is entered as "yes" in 1841 in Louth - I wouldn't worry too much about that as all are entered as "Yes"

the IGI entries mentioned in the posts are not reliable as they are member submitted (member submitted entries are not reliable -on one of their entries my grandfather is listed with all of his siblings as the children of his Aunt and uncle) but since that was posted there may be more information available from Parish records etc
A little puzzle is on 1851 census there is ann  Atkin unmarried age 28 born Burgh in B??? Lincs and described as daughter - I have been puzzling who she could be?? Was Mary previously married ? Not according to the marriage found

Also who is 70 year old Ellen Wilson living with the family in 1841

I am puzzling over this at the moment

1861 gives Thomas Wilson age 83 Joiner uncle to Christopher senior

I think this might be him in 1841 (remember ages of adults on that census are rounded down to nearest 5 years
East gate Lincs
Thomas Wilson 58 Joiner J No
Elizabeth 55 yes
Susannah 19 yes
