Would it be classed as a broach spire?

Not according to the image reproduced here: https://architecturaltravels.wordpress.com/2012/07/09/spire/

It looks more like a needle spire.

Ah yes, I see.

Good evening,

The main body of the church and the tower are the same age would be my guess. The chimney, although possibly altered, is also original. Many small churches had a fire place in the local Lord of the Manor's box pew. He would want to keep himself and family warm.

The 2 parts at the side and the piece connecting tower to church have been added at a later date. Not necessarily at the same time. Hence the different window styles.

The octagonal spire will have been added later also.

There are quite a few examples online of churches with separate towers. But alas this is not one that is pictured.

Towards the top of the tower, offset to the right, is a black spot.  I don't think it is a mark on the photo, but why would it be offset and not centralised?  (it would worry me that it wasn't in the centre  ::))

Good morning,

I saw that as well, could just be missing stone work or a group of very dark stone. Like the one between the windows at this end.

Could the dark spot be a hole where there used to be a clock ? Strange to be offset but if it was added at a later date maybe it was to aid maintenance access from a landing in a stair case.  :-\

Anyone know the structural significance of the large projecting stones sticking out of the gable end?

Good afternoon,

If you mean those between the windows they are water drips. You will notice a projection above each window to match the arch top. They end at the larger projections which will have a groove coming out to the end. This allows rainwater to be carried out from the wall and windows to prevent staining.

Thanks John915, those weren't what I was referring to but I've realised I wasn't spotting the upper slope of the buttresses so was mistakenly seeing part of each buttress as a separate block.
