James Butti or Beattie
« on: Monday 20 June 16 13:19 BST (UK) »
In a Glasgow Poor law application circa 1920 James Beattie is referred to as dying in war service for Scottis Rifles.. It goes onto say he died in Nov 1916 - bit doesnt give location.

Although he was born James Butti on 1875, Glasgow and lived in with his partner in Glasgow until his death. They had no children. They lived in Cowlairs/Possipark district of Glasgow.

I searched SP and the CWGC and found nothing - any other suggestions or have I missed something. I did find hos birth and entry in 1911 census for Glasgow but no death!

Any comments please. Thanks

Hi Trevor

Thank you for the post. That's not him. He is definately named James. I found the entry for Joseph when searching CWGC.

There is an entry for a Jas Beattie in the Army Registers of Soldiers' Effects (Ancestry). He was a private (no 9262) in the 2/5th Scottish Rifles. The entry indicates 'disch'd, died since'. There is just a line drawn through in the column showing persons to whom payment made ( normally this lists widow and/ or other dependants). The entry also bears the words 'see misc 2426' ( not sur to what this refers).

Interesting... I suspect though he spent most of his life in Glasgow. However, I suppose he could have been elsewhere with army!

I expect he is listed in the Scottish death records under Beattie or something like it. But his birth name is definately Butti.
