Mysterious. missing Aunt
« on: Sunday 19 June 16 17:27 BST (UK) »
Looking to find my Aunt who I have never been able to trace ... only scanty information :

Lilian Wood .. born 1896 approximately .. at "The Willows", Poundswick, Northern Etchells, Cheadle, Cheshire .... then possibly at Gib Hill, Shrigley Park, Bollington, Macclesfield in 1919 & 12 Park Street, Bollington. Macclesfield in 1920.

She married James W Hewitt in 1914 and lived at 78, Church Road, Gatley in 1920..... thereafter no more information.

James was killed on the Somme in 1918,( remembered on the memorial at Gatley Green) along with Lilian's brothers, Harold and Ernest, all within 6 weeks and 25 miles of each other in France.

All were my Uncles and my Father, John, was much younger, missed WW1, survived WW2, and died in 1980. Have traced and visited all the graves in N. France.... but Lilian ??????

Any help would be appreciated.

The parish of Cheadle was in the Registration District of Stockport.
The parish of Northenden Etchells was in the Registration District of Altrincham.
So, these entries from FreeBMD look possibles?

September qtr 1895
Altrincham Registration District     vol 8a, page 194

Wood, Lilian

December qtr 1895
Stockport Registration District     vol 8a, page 2

Wood, Lilian Phylis

From GenUKI:
Northen Etchells (or Northenden Etchells) was a township in the ancient parishes of Northenden and Stockport, Bucklow hundred (SJ 8289), which became a civil parish in 1866.

Thanks for those ... most of the links I have gone through to date without success ... NB Lilian was married to J W Hewitt ... he was not her son ...... I have a suspicion that she was buried / died in the Stockport area and it's that info I seek.

I agree that you need to look at the 1939 register, don't dismiss the birth of a son James in 1914. Look for a widowed Lilian born 19 July 1895 with her son in Stockport.

My fault - it was poorly expressed  :)

If the birth date for Lilian that Jebber mentioned ( 19 July 1895) is correct then this death might be  worth looking at - Lilian Hewitt  Birth 19 July 1894  Death March 1976 Vol 6 Page 1351 - High Peak, Derbyshire. The day and month is the same although the year is one out.

There is a death that matches James the son - James William Hewitt, Q3 1998 in St Austell District.

David

P.S. Lilian appears on the Electoral Register in Gatley from 1919-1931
