1861 Census Manchester - I know, big place!!
« on: Thursday 21 July 05 14:33 BST (UK) »
Looking for THOMAS KERSHAW in 1861 in Manchester - I know it's a big ask, because it is a big place ..... ;)

In 1851, he was living in Swan/Span Court Artillery Street, Deansgate with his second wife Elizabeth, son William and his stepchildren Charles and Elizabeth Isherwood.

He died 27 December 1870 at Silver Street, Portland St, Manchester, and his death was registered as a result of a coroner's inquest.  So between the two dates, he was probably in the area somewhere ...!

If someone can help, I would be grateful  :)

Many thanks

Would have helped - won't it ....... :-[

His age on the 1851 census was given as 47, and his age at his death as "about 70 years" - so Thomas would have been about 57 in 1861.  His wife Elizabeth - if still around - would have been about the same age.

Thanks

Thanks for that - it seems that he did indeed get around - perhaps more than I yet know, since there are several possible marriages for him on FreeBMD - or is it Thomas working his way though the whole of Manchester's female population .....!

Thanks for your help
