Surname of Witness
« on: Sunday 12 June 16 10:19 BST (UK) »
I'm hoping that tracing the witnesses of my ancestors marriage might help me trace them back a bit further, however I'm really struggling to decipher the second witness Sarah's surname.  My best guess is Konlham which doesn't seem right! Any ideas?  I could use a second pair of eyes!

Thanks in advance :)

It looks as if her surname has been overwritten!  Could it perhaps be Fordham underneath?

Definitely _ordham

The first letter doesn't look like an F to me, could be K or wonky N, although not sure Kordham is a name.

Jan ;)

I thought that might be the top or middle (horizontal) pencilled stroke of an F underneath. Maybe it's a T, or something else with a horizontal stroke??

But yes,  Kordham is a name.

But yes,  Kordham is a name.

There is not a single instance of it in FreeBMD  :-\

It looks to me like "fordham" (with lower-case "f").

If you give the date and the location it may help to find her in a census or other record.
