Apologies! For non-users of GIMP, I should have explained that anisotropic smoothing is provided as one of the tools in the G'MIC GIMP plug-in. Something which I am sure all users of this software will have added, as it provides many additional powerful tools.
Thanks dafyd46 - I'd already looked up the word and understood the explanation but don't ask me to repeat it as my tongue refuses to obey any command that my brain sends to it.

Whilst I'm here could I ask for a colouring of my OH Bryan (1937-1999) in this image which was taken in the very hot July 1966. I'll understand if it's not a suitable image. I'd like a blue shirt, blue tie and blue eyes please.
