WW11 NZASC Departed NZ 17/2/41

I am researching a relative and have his Army records but would like to know a few more details.

He departed for Egypt on 17/2/41 - how can I find out which ship he would have been on

Where did the 2nd NZRF serve overseas - I am not sure what info is required to find this out.
My first research in to this area so I am not sure where to look.

If you know what Regiment/Battalion he was in,try a Google search. There is a lot of information available online now.

Do you have his full WW2 file from NZDF,if so usually these have all the details.
Do you mean the 2nd NZEF?

if you just go to NZ Army site you should be able to find the information and download his file unless it is closed for "security reasons"

You have to apply to NZDF for records from 1 Jan 1921. http://www.nzdf.mil.nz/personnel-records/nzdf-archives/default.htm
Prior to that date, the records are held by Archives NZ and are being digitized, most of them available via Archway.

See things change by the hour, that is how I got mine and have a friend just trying to get her Dad's and it is restricted.. Anyway this is not getting my own stuff done so cheerio for now.

I did receive this persons  NZDF Personal  Details but some of the handwriting is difficult to read.

That does look like N.Z.E.F  now that I look closer at the photo of his headstone.

I also found a Unit 437 amongst some of the   papers I received.

His medals have not been  uplifted so we are working with relatives to see if we can have access to them but it is quite involved as to who is entitled to them.

I will do some googling when I get some time.

Note:

Many troop transport convoys left New Zealand shores during WWII via Australian ports crossing the Indian Ocean to the Suez Canal and finally by train to a camp outside Cairo where they prepared for desert training.  Check the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force service records you hold for information regarding departure and disembarkation dates.
