His medals have not been uplifted

Hello...

Did your relative survive the war?

If he did and his medals were not issued you should first try and find out why.

Quite difficult as so many years have passed but, as ever, older family members might know.

as to who is entitled to them

Happy to try and decipher his service record if you can somehow upload it. Either here or on the "Handwriting Deciphering and Recognition" board

Look for a place called Port Tewfik,  which was the name  of the port at which he may have disembarked in Egypt.

I am researching a relative and have his Army records but would like to know a few more details.

He departed for Egypt on 17/2/41 - how can I find out which ship he would have been on

Where did the 2nd NZRF serve overseas - I am not sure what info is required to find this out.
My first research in to this area so I am not sure where to look.

Thanks
I suggest that you may like to look at "RASC  . Photos   .... "
on the World War Two  board.

Spades, I don't know as my friend already had the information from the Army but on the archives it shows restricted. I will see her Thursday so will try and remember to ask her, I don't think she has got to the bottom of it. She got the Medals as they hadn't been uplifted.

to GayGirl.... I have my Dad's War diary beside me he served in the 2nd N Z E F but 2 years later (the married with 2 children intake). I know they went to Egypt and Italy there are many pages "cut out" for security reasons I guess, but I know he trained at Trentham in the North Island and then shipped to Perth for training and eventually across to Egypt and then onwards. Now you have reminded me I MUST type out the diary....I have a photo album of photos taken in the war..

Hi Glenda,

I wonder if the restriction you mention applies to individuals where the NZDF have no record of their death.

If your subject is still living he (or the person who holds legal Power of Attorney over his affairs) will need to apply for his records and provide identification.

A lot of WW11 Servicemen didn't apply for their medals because unlike WW1 they were not engraved with their name & service number & it was thought that they should be.   My father didn't apply for his because he felt that they wouldn't mean anything to other family members.   I applied & got them but I had to give all his details.
Good luck.
