Hi Carol8353

I'll check in daily, besides I don't know how to delete that message!  I have changed my email address on my profile info.

Kind regards

Ah that's good,I was worried that people would be doing the look ups for you and you wouldn't know that you'd had any replies!

Hello
I am trying to find out more about my paternal gggrandparents, Robert Lawson and Margaret McKay.  Their banns were proclaimed on 4 Oct, 1814 at Paisley High Church but I'm unable to source their marriage certificate.  On their son's marriage certificate (John Lawson and Ann Watt, 31 Dec, 1878) Robert has signed and Margaret is shown as deceased.

That's an awfully long time between the parents marrying in 1814 and their son marrying some 64 years later in 1878,as Trish says something just isn't right here.  ;D

Carol

Hi Carol

It is a long time, isn't it.  I did pick up that I had the wrong couple (posted that earlier).  I should never work late at night - and clutch at straws!

Back to the drawing board.

Cheers

Hi Jim1

I know very little about them - only what is on their son's marriage certificate. Their son, John, married Ann Watt on 31 December, 1878 at the Manse, Partick.  John's father is Robert (carter by trade) and His mother is Margaret nee McKay (dec'd).  I can follow John's wife's trail but have come to a dead-end with Robert and Margaret.

Hello Trish
Thank you so much for all the trouble you've taken.  When I looked at the mc again I realised that John's age could be read as 35 and if this was correct then the info in the 1881 Census for John and Ann at Ruthven Lane is correct.  In the 1891 Census re their children, Peter, 12, would be my grandfather, Christina has her maternal grandmother's Christian name, Margaret has her paternal grandmother's name.  Ann Lawson (Watt) was born in Udny, Aberdeenshire and the marriage date is 1877 not 1888.  I will try later on tonight to find a birth certificate for John and see if there is further info re his parents.

Thank you once again

I think the key to tracing Johns Parents is his Nephew from the 1901 Census.
