Ship Montmorency
« on: Friday 03 June 16 15:07 BST (UK) »
Trying to locate passenger list for a ship MONTMORENCY to New Zealand 1857-1858

Left London 13 Dec 1857
Arrived Wellington 11 April 1858 (119 days Capt Kiddie).

The couple I am interested in got married soon after embarkation:

Married on Wed 14 April at Wellington by Rev Wm Kirton
David Bishop to Miss Mary Mooney only dau of the late Mr Mooney, Ireland;
both passengers per ship Montmorency.

Hi,

I have asked the Moderators to move your request to the Main Board of NZ, where it will be seen for the help you need.

Cheers

Hi Gortinanima,

Here's a link to a testimonial to Capt. Kiddle from some passengers.

http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=d&d=WI18580417.2.3.2

Added: I see a 'Mary MOORNEY' in the first column... :) :)

The vessel arrived at Petone at the north end of Wellington Harbour. The Petone Settlers Museum has a partial list of the Montmorency (I searched by vessel), many from the testimonial linked above, but I found a Mary MOONEY and a David BISHOP arriving on the Montrose on the date you gave for the arrival of the Montmorency. Is this an error, I wonder?

I hope you don't mind me butting in here.

I've had a look at the Petone Settlers data via your link and there is information on some ancestors that I haven't seen on the passenger lists that are on Family Search.   E.g. A place of birth (village) whereas the list on FamilySearch just states the county.

Would you know whether there other records about the voyages or passengers that Hutt City has in addition to the lists on FamilySearch?

What would "? PSM" stand for?

Thank you.   That does seem likely.

Hi Gortinanima,

I can't explain why David BISHOP and Mary MOONEY/MOORNEY appear under the manifest for the
Montrose not the Montmorency.

As far as I can see so far the Montrose only made one voyage to Wellington (in 1882) while the Montmorency certainly arrived in April 1858.

The Montmorency was destroyed by fire in Napier harbour in 1867.

Hurworth, Petone Settlers Museum records were sourced from published shipping records, social security records and from information contributed by family/descendants, so its possible to find real gems amongst the data.
