John BLOWER and Emma LUXFORD help please with both fathers.
« on: Thursday 02 June 16 15:54 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me please. I am tracing my family bck and have come to a block. I have a marriage certificate for John James Blower and Emma Luxford dated 1870 at St Mary's Chaterhouse Holborn Middlesex. It states that John's father was Richard Blower a boot maker of 8 George Yard and Emma's father was James a shoemaker of 2 George Yard. I can,t find any reference to either father at these addresses in any census, and am unable to trace back any further. If anyone has any information on either family or can help in anyway i would be so grateful. Thank You Sue

Welcome :)

The addresses on a marriage certificate should be those for bride and groom, rather than their respective fathers (whose names and occupations only should be stated).

Have you found the couple in the 1871 census for ages and birthplaces?

I am tracing my family bck and have come to a block. I have a marriage certificate for John James Blower and Emma Luxford dated 1870 at St Mary's Chaterhouse Holborn Middlesex.

I see that the bridegroom was recorded as just John Blower (no middle name) of full age, firewood cutter.

Emma Luxford was aged 18 at marriage on 3 October 1870.

Witnesses seem to have been on the bride's side - J (or T?) Luxford signed, and Mary Luxford made her mark.

It looks as though Emma (born 2 May 1854) was baptised as Martha Emma Luxford at St Thomas Charterhouse, Finsbury, daughter of James & Mary Ann, on 2 April 1858.

Likely death as Emma Martha Blower in Holborn in 1897, aged 39.

Her husband appears to remarry as John James Blower in Holborn in 1899, confusingly to another Emma (Emma Esther Burt).

Thank you everyone for your help. It's interesting that John remarried. No knowledge of that in my family history. The 1871 census seems to be the couple but is it unusual not to be able find any mention if either of them in earlier ones with their parents. Thank you again for all your help. I have been trying for weeks to trace both couples back with no joy until now.
