Qld BDM online index has Mary Campbell GALT marrying in Brisbane in 1870.   What information did Mary give about her parents when she married?  If she was not yet 21 years of age, who is noted as providing consent for her to marry?  Where does the middle name of Campbell fit in?

https://www.bdm.qld.gov.au/IndexSearch/queryEntry.m?type=marriages
1870  (4 March 1870)
B2919
Mary Campbell GALT
James ANDERSON
B = Brisbane event.

Mary was awarded that sum of £5/1/11 in 1862.  In that era, female at 12 years of age was old enough to marry, but not yet old enough to give their own consent to their own marriage.  And at 12, they were also old enough to be awarded sums of money by courts.

I can see that the Intestate estate received £46/17/8 in 1859 and paid out £4/18/- in 1859, so there must have been other claims to the rest of the £46.

I wonder if NSW State Library has Queensland Government Gazettes for you to check further for his widow.  It is quite possible that Jane remarried after the death of Nevin.  Have you considered that she may well have been alive when Mary was awarded that £5 in 1862.

Hi,
A quick internet browse using Google reveals a lot of further information regarding the GALT and PAULSY/POLLOCK families. It can and, probably should, be viewed by those attempting to assist here on R'chat, as it may be very useful and even possibly reduce the time expended on the query here. Posted just about a year ago.

Some of the news items from Trove have been corrected to make the reading easier too. Here is one for instance.

Tidying up my desktop

May I mention that the Queenslander, 12 March 1870 has the following marriage announcement:
ANDERSON-GAULT
On the 4th March, at the residence of the bride’s aunt, Mrs. Wm Pauley, Margaret Street, by the Rev Charles Ogg, James Anderson to Mary Campbell Gault, daughter of the late Mr Niven Gault, Paisley, Scotland.

http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/1311678

and
same paper, but  23 April 1870
PAULEY, On the 18th April, at Cardwell, Mr William Pauley, late of Brisbane, aged 47 years.

http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/27260571

I am fairly sure that Cardwell is around 550 miles further north than Rockhampton.  Perhaps his sister Jane/Jean GAULT/GALT was the informant on that death registration, or at least the organiser of his funeral?

Qld BDM online index has the following:
1870
C72 (outside of Brisbane event)
William PAULEY
Born Scotland, aged 48 years.
