Ancestry - rip off
« on: Friday 27 May 16 06:15 BST (UK) »
Am sorry if this is the wrong forum, but at the moment am "seething"  >:(

I cancelled my subscription with Ancestry three months ago and assumed everything was fine found out on receipt of my Visa account they had still managed to get two months payment even after the cancellation.....imagine my anger  :o this morning when I received an statement from a Visa account that I only keep for emergencies !!! that they had managed to get another months payment i.e. 25 May 2016 to the 25 Jun 2016, this account had not been used for Ancestry payments since before 2006...what the hell goes on.....I have left my comments on their website but do not expect any reply... and doubt very much that I would receive a refund.
Am absolutely furious.... >:( >:( >:(

My apologies...rant over .....Patvp

Sorry I meant to add, on the advice of the banks concerned the only way I could put a stop to this was by cancelling both cards  :o  now have to wait for replacement cards Aaaagh......

At my age really don't need this.

As always patvp

Why don't you give Ancestry a ring patvp1.

I would also be very annoyed but have always found them most helpful on the phone.

Good luck  :)
Best wishes HL

I would think that the bank also ought to be held to blame as well if they are allowing payment on an old card, as you must have received at least one new card with a new number since 2006. I must admit I was a bit shocked when my house insurance came up for renewal and I realised it was the wrong card number that they had. When I called, worried I might not be insured, they said they had already taken the money and the bank had allowed it! If you have it set as a direct debit, surely you can just stop it? I'd do as others have suggested and phone Ancestry rather than email.

Call your credit card company and dispute the charges.

That is very strange! hen my Ancestry has been cancelled it was either if i got a new card (as the old one should be cancelled completely as technically it shouldnt exist anymore) or if i have gone on phone banking and cancel the direct debit. I would defo be asking questions to why money is coming off a card which doesnt exist unless it hasnt actually been cancelled! x

Call your credit card company and dispute the charges.

Charges won't be high enough for credit card compensation to kick in. Think each one has to be over 100 quid.
