Gertrude Sandall/Sandell
« on: Monday 16 May 16 19:11 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for any further information on Gertrude Sandall/Sandell.

A Gertrude Emily Sandall was born in 1896 in the District of Abingdon, England.
In 1901 she was resident in Warborough, Berkshire aged 4. Place of birth was recorded as Abingdon.

In 1907, a Gertrude Sandell aged 10 was a passenger to Nova Scotia on the Dominion along with many other children.

1911, a Gertrude Sandell aged 14 was in Dufferin, Ontario, with the family of Joseph Matthews.

Any further information on Gertrude would be most helpful.

Steve

This is a section of the marriage above - as you can see place of birth is quite jumbled  ::)

- place of birth could be Birmingham.  I can't read the footnote unfortunately.

A Gertrude Annie Sandall was born in 1894 in the District of Aston (Birmingham)

It seems that the Gertrude Sandall/Sandell who went to Canada is not the Gertrude I am looking for.

Many thanks

Steve

Having checked free bmd for Gertrude Sandall's born 1891 - 1901 - I could account for all but one of them in 1911.  The one that was missing from UK records was Gertrude Emily Sandall born Abingdon.  So I wouldn't write off the Gertrude in Canada - especially if she knew very little about where she was born and who her parents were.

Have you got the birth certificate for your Gertrude which lists the parents ?

The 1907 passenger list was a Dr Barnados party - have you thought of making enquiries with them to see if they have more details on the Gertrude listed   ???

There is also a section on RootsChat - Database for Special Interest Groups (DBSIG) Home Children to Canada - where you could add her name

Gertrude Emily Sandall was baptised on 05 Sep 1898 at Abingdon St Michael and All Angels, daughter of Agnes.

Agnes Jane Sandall was born 1864.  In the 1881 Census she is in Warborough, Berkshire.  Can't locate her at the moment in 1901 or 1911.  There is a possible emigration of Agnes to Canada in 1919.
