Hi Celia...  I'm looking for the marriage of John Morris b. 1842 & Elizabeth Hughes b. 1848.  Their 2 daughters were born in Liscard, on Rake Lane.  I'm hoping that John & Eliz. were married in Wallasey.  Probably between 1870-1884.
Thank you.  Joan Rines, Maine, US

Thanks again, Celia.  I have that cert. & the ages are wrong.  They're very elusive, my Morris'.  But he was a stonemason, so probably travelled alot.
They were Church of Eng.

Hello Joan
I went to the library as promised and found it closed ??? I forgot to remember it now closes on a Saturday afternoon ::) I was going to look through the directories. Its quicker than the net ones, after i had looked for the marriage if any in wallasey.Whats the last address you had for John, when where his children born.Rake lane was nearly all shops and there were about 3 /4 stone masons in bussines at the time john would have been there. One is still there right next to the cemetery.

Hi Celia... thanks so much.
The last known address for John Morris was
353 Rake Lane, Liscard on 26 Aug 1885.  I did not find them there for the 1881 census, but I did find a John Morris/40 b. 1841 Denbigh/mason/mar/lodging
at Pencrug, Llangadock, Carmarthen who seems to be the only one I could find that fit the bill.
They emigrated in 1887 to Portland, Maine.
Thanks again for all the help.  Joan

Hi Joan
no wonder i couldn't find him on the on line directories earlier this evening :D Looks like you may have found him. So If this is him you now know he was married in/by 1881
If he was welsh he might have been visiting relatives. Was his wife welsh? Then like today you will find that most women get married from home.So if i don't find a marriage next week.Maybe you should look in  her hometown/ Birthplace for the marriage.

Hi Celia.... Yes, they were Welsh.  But all I know is that John was from Denbighshire.  Nothing about Elizabeth Hughes.... and there are thousands of them!  I can't even narrow them down to a town.  They're such common names.  No sons to glean a family name.  I've found a few towns that have a few of the odder family names- Constance, Dorothea & Ruth- but nothing concrete.  I have both Eliz. II and Harriette Agnes born in Wallasey by 1884.  Is it odd to have first marriages at 42 & 36 yrs.old?
Thanks again, Joan
