There is a marriage at Manchester Cathedral 13.2.1828 between James Sudlow (Hairdresser)  and Margaret Coope

Witnesses look like Robert Fitton/Fulton and James Ross.  Robert Fitton appears as a witness on several other marriage entries so was probably a church official or similar

1838 Thomas Sudlow - mothers maiden name COOP  registered Ancoats, Manchester

just to confirm CaroleW find of Coope as Margarets name - not Cooke as you thought

www.familysearch.org
baptism records
Mary Ann Sudlow  28th dec 1828 at Manchester Cathedral - James and Margaret parents
Ann 1st February 1830 same parents / cathedral
Elizabeth  27th july 1831 - James and Margaret - same Cathedral
Thomas Coop Sudlow 1st October 1834 same parents / cathedral ...presumably died as an infant
William 20th april 1836 same parents /cathedral
Thomas 7th feb 1838 same parents / cathedral
so - was Mary Ann working away from home at age 12 during 1841 census or has she sadly passed away  ...second baby is also named Ann so possibly Mary Ann died young as well.

I couldn't find the baptism of Harriet - but they have her marriage

Thanks Mabel - how very sad - I wonder if James or Margaret buried Thomas in St Marys Prestwich because it was their family church ?...I don't know Manchester well - is Prestwich by Ancoats ?.....if not it would suggest one of them was from Prestwich before moving to Ancoats.

Hello

I can't add anything about James Sudlow at the moment, I'll have a look though. However, the John and Frances that you mention are in my tree and I don't think there is any connection to James.

I have run up a few blind alleys looking at Sudlows in Manchester. Mine were largely solicitors. There is another large Sudlow family that I followed. In my head I call them the musical Sudlows since one was organist in the cathedral and another was a professional violinist. But we had musicians and they had solicitors.

Anyway, I'll help if I can

regards

Suds
