Hello

I had a look but couldn't find anything conclusive.

In my family my earliest Sudlow ancestors are a pair of brothers who appear out of nowhere in Liverpool and Manchester in the 18th century. I suspect they come from Plemonstall (now called Plemstall) in Cheshire  but I can't make the leap. Plemonstall is about 4 miles from Thornton le Moors which I suspect is relevant to your ancestry. But I suspect also, that you'll never make the leap either. It's very frustrating.

Nevertheless, we keep trying, it's part of the fun.

Regards

Suds

Hello

I'm a bit hesitant to hijack ro net's thread.

I don't believe Plemonstall is on the CPRdb yet. The brothers are:

Thomas Sudlow b approx 1765 based on age at death 1831 in Liverpool
John Sudlow b approx 1768 based on age at death 1811 in Manchester

I've looked quite a bit and the only two brothers I could find, born at the relevant times, are born in Plemonstall.

Thomas Sudlow became clerk to the treasurer of Liverpool Council.
I'm not sure what John Sudlow did but his son became a solicitor.

Regards

Hello Garstonite

I'm not sure if I knew about the second burial in 1831 but I'm pretty certain that my Thomas Sudlow is the one who lived in Renshaw Street. I can't lay my hands on the definitive proof just now but you can track him in various directories and via the birth of his children.

I have his will and a newspaper report where the council, having been informed of his death, appoint his son John (my ancestor) as his replacement and John's brother William as successor to John as deputy. Incidentally, it is this William Sudlow who founds the Liverpool Philharmonic alyhough he doesn't cover himself in glory a few years later when he makes off with some of the funds.
